By the Christmas Tree

The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole has been long been one of my favorite Christmas songs since I can remember.  I've only recently been able to figure out how to play this tune because of this tutorial.

From this inspiration I was able to craft my own humble Christmas tune By the Christmas Tree.

Joe Gilder ~ Out of Indiana

I stumbled across Joe Gilder's blog over at Home Studio Corner.com and within minutes was hooked. Joe has a well organized web space loaded with some incredibly helpful tips for a newbie like myself.

I downloaded his free eBook 31 Days To Better Recording and shall take the time to go through each stage of this easy to follow suggestion list. What can it hurt?

Beyond all of this goodness, Joe Gilder is an amazing musical talent. Check out his album he wrote, recorded and produced titled Out of Indiana. Simply put, you won't find a bad song on the entire record.

Strummin' the Ole Heart Strings

Besides being in the never ending search of good music and melodies I am also on the endless hunt for inspirational stories.

Here's a story presented by Benjamin Zander that strummed my heart strings and perhaps will do the same for you.

As told from the T.E.D. weblog
Benjamin Zander has two infectious passions: classical music, and helping us all realize our untapped love for it -- and by extension our untapped love for all new possibilities, new experiences, new connections.

What Do These Songs Have in Common?

Question: What do the following songs have in common?
  • Lady Madonna by the Beatles
  • Mess Around by Ray Charles
  • Come by Me by Harry Connick Jr.
Answer: The left hand on the keys.

Although I play piano I don't have a left hand when it comes to holding down the rhythm. The left hand holds piano songs together and will ultimately be the reason you will be tapping your foot to these tunes. I am practicing but these guys have mastered it.

From Bended Knee I Thank Thee...

A huge and humbling thank you to Bob Sprankle for his kind thoughts and reflections on this tune I sang.

I have been enjoying Bob's Song of the Day on his Facebook page and have been exposed to some very cool music I wouldn't have found other wise. On one particular day I decided to share a tune I had recorded the night before with him, and this is what transpired afterward.

If you haven't seen this short video of Bobby illustrating the simplicity yet the power of music take a peak ~ you won't be disappointed.

Here's Bobby talking about his passion for the instrument we all have ~ the voice box.

Take a listen to Bobby performing this tune, Thinkin' About Your Body.
